The Opening Ceremony Marks the Start of the World Championship at La Pampilla, Lima, Peru

Miraflores, Lima, Peru, February 23, 2013- The International Surfing Association (ISA) is pleased to announce the 2013 ISA World Standup Paddle and Paddleboard Championship begins on Sunday.

The Opening Ceremony will officially mark the start of the second annual World Championship in the beautiful coastal city of Miraflores, and will feature the ISA’s traditional Parade of Nations and Sands of the World Ceremony. This ceremony allows each participating nation to come to the stage waving their national flag while pouring sand from their local beach into a glass container symbolizing the peaceful gathering of nations through the love of surfing.

“I’m very excited that all 23 National Teams have arrived and settled in the beautiful city of Miraflores in Lima, Peru, the cradle of Latin American surfing” remarked ISA President Fernando Aguerre. “With the Opening Ceremony on Sunday morning, followed by the first day of competition on Monday, all the athletes are excited and ready to compete for the Individual and Team Gold Medals.”

“The surf forecast is looking promising for the entire week with the swell peaking at 6-8ft,” added Aguerre. “Adjacent to the surf area is a calm bay where the SUP and Paddleboard racers will enjoy great conditions as well. Our hosts will be delivering an amazing Opening Ceremony to welcome all the National Delegations from around the world. I wish all the surfers the best of luck.”
